INVESTMENTS IN mobile applications and technologies is likely to increase through 2011. With the rapidly booming technology the mobile phones will be more value-for-money products.The expected inclusions are advanced bluetooth, widgets, gps and touch screens.

It is believed that by 2011, two new versions of Bluetooth wireless technology will come up.

One of them called the Bluetooth 3 will enable faster data transmission while Bluetooth 4 will introduce a new low-energy (LE) mode leading to communication with external peripherals and sensors.

Improvised battery life and higher security will be the additional advantages. It is also likely that Bluetooth 3 will facilitate corporate and consumer functions demanding large bandwidth like downloading images and videos from handsets. Bluetooth LE will enable a range of new sensor-based business models in industries such as fitness, healthcare and environmental control.

By the next year, over 85 per cent of the handsets will include some form of browser. Most of them will be smartphones with sophisticated browsing capability.These will clearly affect corporate strategies,draw a wide range of customers and address most mobile challenges.

Also over 75 per cent of devices are believed to include a Global Positioning System(GPS). alongwith Wi-Fi and cell ID systems.The popularity ofWidgets will also see a rise.Widgets are installable web applications that use technologies such as JavaScript and HTML.

Touchscreens which are most suitable for large-screen handsets will be available in 60 per cent of the mobile devices shipped in Western Europe and North America in 2011. Mobile application stores will be the primary way to distribute applications to smartphones and other mobile devices..They will be a distribution channel for mobile applications and a commercial channel to sell applications and content, especially in international markets.

The year 2011 will hopefully satiate the craze of all tech savvys.
