OS X Mountain Lion Gold Released To Developers

Apple Mountain Lion OSX

Apple releases Gold Master of OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion to developers.  The Gold Master version is the final build Apple release to developers before releasing the product to the public a short time later.
Distribution of the gold master to developers means Apple are on schedule for a mid to end of July release for the next generation of OS X.  If Apple follow the tradition of releasing the OS the day after its earnings call, the we can expect Mountain Lion to be released on 25th July.  The upgrade cost has been slashed to $19.99 (£13).

Mountina Lion has a host of new features including a dedicated Messages app and a Notification Centre.  The OS aims to provide tighter integration with iOS devices.  These new features come at a cost though.  Some older macs will not be able to run Mountain Lion.

Only the following Macs can run Mountain Lion.
  • iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
  • MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
  • MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
  • MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
  • Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
  • Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
  • Xserve (Early 2009)
Apple has also published the technical specifications required.  You can find more detailed infomation on Mountain Lion on the Apple site.
