Windows 8 Pre RTM No Aero Desktop Leaked

Windows 8 aero leaked metro

One of the biggest changes Microsoft announced for Windows 8 was the change from the "Aero Glass" interface we had in Windows Vista and Windows 7 to a new Metro UI.  Until today these changes had not been fully seen as the weren't included in the recent Release Preview.
A number of changes have been made to the UI since the Release Preview 2 weeks ago.  Microsoft have said the new Metro UI will appear crisper following the removal of shadows and transparency.  Gradients have been removed from buttons.  The task bar is no longer has the glass, transparent look or blur effect.

The new design brings with it some heartache for those that loved the Aero Glass effect as it has now been completely removed from Windows 8.

Check out the new screenshots below.

I like that they've gotten rid of the rounded window corners, and cleaned up the look a bit. I don't like that they're trying to turn the start menu into a smartphone-like interface.

If history holds true, Windows 8 will be utterly terrible, due to the 'every other' rule. Windows 95, ME, and Vista were the flops, while Windows 3.1, 98, XP, and 7 have been the generally accepted as good. I suspect this is because the flop releases introduce all of the new user facing features, while the good releases introduce internal optimizations, performance enhancements, and general stabilization of the previous OS's features.
I agree it does look smart phone'ish, i hope it cuts cpu usage. with pc's and laptops becoming smaller and less equiped.
