Do you ever leave your computer on for days or even weeks? Have you ever wondered if possibly someone else decided to use your computer? If so, what was he or she doing on there? Do you like to have security on your PC? Do you hate spyware and adware? Not only is this program great for managing your system resources and keeping track of what every program is doing; but it can also give you the ability to make sure certain things never happen on your PC. I am a computer technician. I am on computers more or less all day long. I do get a bit paranoid about what could happen when I am not sitting in front of my computer while it is running. That is why I am pleased to say that I think I found the answer for my paranoia. Let me show you what I mean with a few examples of what WinTasks 4 Professional can do.
Great User Interface: Ease of operation; ability to open and close several windows and never get lost. Watch several windows at the same time to monitor what is going on as shown below.
Expansive and Detailed Log Files: Keeps track of everything down to the key presses in Windows
You can choose to log processes, windows operations, and modules being run in windows either one at a time or all together. You can also print directly from the logging file window to get hard copies of anything that looks strange. This also displays what directories and folders everything is in and puts on a date and time stamp so you can track down who did what on the computer.
This is a clip of the log file generated on my computer. It actually kept track of me going into the Phone and Modem Options in my control panel and changing things in there. I was also changing properties on a pcAnywhere connection and it showed up in this log file as well. Very impressive logging capabilities; not to mention a great tool for paranoia which I like.
Useful scripting tool: Stop processes before they can do anything on windows. Prevent your children from viewing certain content on the Internet. Keep tight control on applications to prevent them from eating 100% of your CPU Usage. Scripts are easily created and written.
I considered some examples of what you could do with this scripting tool. Everyone knows about that annoying program called Gator that tries to install itself on your PC when you browse certain websites. Gator is spyware that keeps track of all the websites you visit among other things and sends the information to a server. I don’t know about you; but I don’t like being spied on. Can you uninstall Gator completely? Sure you can, but its not easy and most of the time you can miss a piece and it will run again on your PC when you restart. I don’t have Gator on my computer currently so I am not sure of the actual process name; but if you watched your log you could find out what any process name was and then enter it in a script to kill it when it attempts to run on your computer. This being a preventative measure that can keep your computer tightly locked down and free of any spyware program if you take the time to set up the scripts.
Another is to create scripts to control your applications and not let them take over 100% of your CPU or your PC's memory.
This is a great example straight from the manual that comes with the program. What this would do is if any program running that contained "media" in it tried to take more than 50% of your CPU Usage it would drop that application to low priority and not allow it to slow your PC down.
Watch your startup Items: Keeps track of what is running on startup. Allows you to view and change them when needed.
Check your system Statistics: Its nice to view your statistics. You can analyze what processes are taking too much of your CPU and slow them down with your scripts. Nice little information window. And you can also select how far back you want to view your statistics.
Overall I would have to say I am very impressed with yet another great creation from LIUtilities. As a computer technician I am always looking for ways to increase control of my computer operations. This is a great tool to help me accomplish that with ease. The manual is very easy to understand and this program while looking very complex is very easy to work. You don’t have to be a computer wizard to set things up in WinTasks 4 Professional and in no time you can minimize hang times when running Windows.
This definitely has my recommendation.
