How To Remove Messenger 4.x From Windows Xpby Kungfucious
If you're like me and hate having things loading at startup without your knowledge, such as Messenger 4x - You'll be pleased to know that there is a fix.
To begin with, If you're using Windows XP without Service Pack 1, you can go to your start bar, click on
1. START
2. RUN
3. Cut and paste the following line:
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%INFmsmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
4. Press enter or click on OK.
After the computer finished doing its thing, youll need to reboot your machine. On some occasions, you will receive a security message - Just ignore it, press ok or escape. It's just trying to figure out why you dont want messenger anymore?
Need we bother explaining? i didnt think so either!
Ok, for those of you with XP service pack 1 - Go to
1. Controll Panel
2. Add/Remove programs
3. On the left click on Add/Remove WindowsComponents
4. Deselect Windows Messenger!
5. This will remove messenger from all your shortcuts, etc. but not completely remove it!
6. Now simply follow the same steps as for the NON-SP1 users
All done! Now you can go hunt down your favorite chat software and install that instead!
Enjoy!
