MSCONFIG

Windows configuration msconfig

You may not be aware of this, but when you install a new application on your computer, most applications automatically place themselves into your windows startup procedure.  This is where using MSCONFIG can help by removing unnecessary programs from Startup. Your PC will start faster and run better, as it won't be using resources loading things you don't need.
Simply go to your START MENU, normally on the bottom left corner of your screen.  Click RUN, type MSCONFIG in the box and press enter.

This will bring up a screen with numerous options.  Go to the far right tab labeled STARTUP and click on it.

This brings up a list of all the programs your computer starts when loading windows.  Go through them, and uncheck programs that do not need to be started with windows (winamp for example).  When you have made all your changes, click APPLY at the bottom, and then click OK.  Now it will ask you to choose whether to restart your computer or to exit without a restart.

I usually restart my computer.  On your next Windows restart, a 'System msg box' will appear. You can accept the Msconfig changes by checking "Don't show this message," or click OK to launch System Configuration Utility and renter Msconfig to make further changes.

This should help Windows to load faster on startup.  If your computer does not have MSCONFIG, you can get it at the link below.
